LIGHTING DISTRICT

The Charlotte County Lighting District maintains and repairs traffic signals, street lights, and other electrical devices, including:

All traffic lights within unincorporated Charlotte County

17 Traffic lights via interlocal agreement within the City of Punta Gorda
1,065 Street lighting fixtures on major Charlotte County roads
15 Hazard warning beacons
61 School zone flashing lights
  South Gulf Cove Boat Lock controls
  Manchester Waterway Boat Lock Controls
  Tom Adams Bridge

The Lighting District is also responsible for maintenance and operation of the Advanced Transportation Management System (ATMS) which currently monitors 53 traffic signals along U.S. 41, Kings Highway, and in the City of Punta Gorda.  There are over 30 miles of buried fiber optic cable connecting these signals with the control center.  Plans are to include the remainder of Charlotte County's traffic signals by the year 2005.
