ROAD WATCH

April 10, 2008 - July 9, 2008
US 41 North Access Road:

Port Charlotte, Florida - Due to replacement of the Fordham Waterway Bridge, the US 41 North Access Road will be closed between Easy Street and Conway Boulevard, beginning on April 10, 2008, and continuing for approximately 3 months.  Traffic will be detoured around the construction site.

April 2, 2008 - May 31, 2008
Manchester Lock Shutdown:
Port Charlotte, Florida - The Manchester Lock will be closed Mondays through Fridays during the hours of 7:30am to 5:30pm from April 2, 2008 through May 31, 2008.  This closure is necessary for the removal of the lock.  Due to the nature of the construction going on at the lock, if debris falls into the waterway, it may be necessary for the lock to remain closed until any debris can be removed.  Please use extreme caution when navigating this area.

April 2, 2008 - September 2, 2008
Orange Drive:

Port Charlotte, Florida - Phase II of the US 41 Revitalization Project will include improvements along South Access Road from West Tarpon Boulevard to Port Charlotte Boulevard.  In order to construct the necessary road work, storm drain, and gravity sewer installation, Orange Drive will be closed for approximately 5 months, beginning April 2, 2008, between the South Access Road and Spruce Street.  Traffic will be detoured around the construction area.  Motorists and pedestrians are encouraged to use caution.

April 2, 2008 - September 2, 2008
US 41 South Access Road:
Port Charlotte, Florida - Phase II of the US 41 Revitalization Project includes improvements along the South Access Road, from West Tarpon Boulevard to Port Charlotte Boulevard.  Construction of the parking pods located on the west side of the Access Road will begin on Wednesday, April 2, 2008, and will last approximately five months.  The road will be closed to one lane going one-way with northbound access only from Port Charlotte Boulevard to West Tarpon Boulevard.  Detours and signs will be in place.  Motorists and pedestrians are urged to use caution in the construction area.

March 24, 2008 - May 24, 2008
Exotic Vegetation Removed from Manchester Waterway Area:  Port Charlotte, Florida - Exotic vegetation is being removed from West Spring Lake and Manchester Waterway islands as required by state and federal environmental permits for the Manchester Lock removal project.  Eradication of exotic and nuisance vegetation on the islands began on Monday, March 24, 2008, and will continue for approximately 60 days.  Homeowners and boaters are asked to avoid the islands while workers use Florida Department of Environmental protection approved herbicide to kill the vegetation on site.

March 15, 2008 - Until Further Notice
Manchester Lock Light to be Turned Off:
Port Charlotte, Florida - The light at the lock in the Manchester Waterway will be turned off beginning Saturday, March 15, 2008, until further notice as construction begins on the removal of the lock.  Boaters are urged to use caution in that area when navigating the waterway after dark.

March 10, 2008 - May 10, 2008
Education Street:
Punta Gorda, Florida - Beginning March 10, 2008, and continuing through May 10, 2008, Education Street will be limited to one-way traffic, southbound from Carmalita Street to Taylor Road.  Northbound traffic will not be allowed on Education Street during this period, but detours will be set up using Taylor Road and Cooper Street as alternate routes to Carmalita Street.  These closures are associated with work being done to construct a new roadway.  Delays should be expected during construction, and motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes.

March 15, 2008 - October 2008
Quesada Avenue at Dorchester and Morningstar Waterways:  Port Charlotte, Florida - Quesada Avenue will be closed between Hinton and Kensington Streets to through and pedestrian traffic, effective immediately and continuing until October 2008.  The closure is necessary to complete work associated with the replacement of two stormwater control structures within the Dorchester and and Morningstar Waterways.  Traffic from Quesada Boulevard will be detoured to Peachland Boulevard on either Hinton Street or Kensington Street.  Motorists and pedestrians are encouraged to exert caution.

Until Further Notice
Tom Adams Bridge: Englewood, Florida - The Tom Adams Bridge is experiencing mechanical problems that limit the opening of the bridge to the East span.  The single span will accommodate most recreational and commercial boat traffic.  The bridge will continue to open on request, and there should be no additional impact on motorists using the bridge.  The Coast Guard has been notified of this situation.  Operators of large commercial tugs and barges should follow the guidance provided the Coast Guard issued "Notice to Mariners."

Until Further Notice
Ingraham Boulevard Bridge:
Port Charlotte, Florida - The Ingraham Boulevard Bridge crossing the President Waterway, between Snapper Circle and Arrid Circle, is closed for repairs until further notice.  While damages are being repaired, Ingraham Boulevard east of the bridge may be accessed via Keystone Boulevard/Hallendale Drive or St. Paul Drive via Calumet Boulevard.  Signs will be posted to assist motorists.
