Murdock Village Community Redevelopment Project
Located on Florida’s southwest coast between Sarasota and Naples, the Murdock Village is one of the largest contiguous parcels available for redevelopment in the state of Florida. The Murdock Village site is located within one mile of the new spring training complex of the 2008 American League Champion Tampa Bay Rays Baseball Team. Charlotte Harbor, offering world class fishing and sailing, is less than five miles away, and the Gulf of Mexico’s beautiful beaches are only a thirty minute drive from Murdock Village.
On March 22, 2011 the Board of County Commissioners and ex-officio Murdock Village Community Redevelopment Agency approved a disposition agreement with Southwest Land Developers for the disposition of 137 acres within Murdock Village CRA for the development of an Entertainment District with an option for an additional 100 acres. The Economic Development Office is currently working on developing the eastern 160 acres for a Business Technology Park. The CRA is open to any and all proposals for the remaining 518.64 acres within the Core Area and the 74 platted lots or 15.54 acres in the Gateway Area which is located along US41.
On March 27, the BCC approved publishing a 30 day notice, required by the Florida Redevelopment Act, to consider the Main Stage LLC proposal to acquire approximately 100 acres to develop a theater and entertainment district in the Murdock Village Community Redevelopment Area. The proposal includes a conceptual plan and a term sheet that lays out specific milestones that both Main Street and the County are required to meet at 6 months;12 months; and 18 months intervals from the date the Board enters into an option contract. If all milestones are meet, Main Stage LLC will purchase the property or in lieu of purchase adopt a binding construction and development timelines as consideration of the property.
