Charlotte County Celebrates Completion of Rotonda Water Reclamation Facility Expansion
CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (Sept. 11, 2009) – Charlotte County will celebrate the completed construction of the Rotonda Water Reclamation Facility Expansion with a ceremony and refreshments on Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, at 9:30 a.m. The ceremony is open to the public and will take place at the Rotonda facility located at 3740 Kendall Road in Cape Haze.
The 2.0-million-gallon-per-day facility was constructed by Adams Robinson Enterprises and was designed by AECOM Engineering. The expansion to the County’s Rotonda Water Reclamation Facility increased treatment capacity from 0.625 million gallons per day (MGD) to 2.0 MGD. This increase provides future capacity for a total service population of approximately 20,000 people. The $26 million construction project was part of a capital improvement project that was completed in two phases and took approximately 25 months to complete.
The new facility features state of the art Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) technology, which includes a new reclaimed water pumping system, a 3-million-gallon storage tank, and a lined storage pond. All of these improvements will ensure reclaimed quality water and allow us to meet the needs of reclaimed water customers. A new operations building was also constructed. The new facility exceeds FDEP requirements and allows for continued growth in the Rotonda Water Reclamation Facility service area.
