Street Light Request

Requests and inspections for street lights are made through the Charlotte County Lighting District. After the application is received, an inspection of the area will determine if the proposed location meets the criteria set by the Board of County Commissioners. The criteria include:

  • Distance from an existing street light (must be at least 300 feet from an existing light).
  • Direct source of electric power is available.
  • At least three dwellings in a cluster (across the street, next door, etc.).
  • Requestor must live in the immediate vicinity of where they are requesting the light.

Charlotte County field reviews of requests are performed at the end of each month. Charlotte County will call the applicant following the review, indicating whether the request meets the criteria above.  If the criteria are met, we will notify Florida Power and Light (FPL) at the end of the month. Per the contract between Charlotte County Lighting District and FPL (Article 1, Section 2), FPL has 90 days to install the street light.
