“Household Pests” and “Is that Spider Dangerous?”

Charlotte County, Fla. (August 28, 2009) The Charlotte County Environmental and Extension Services will be presenting a two part class entitled, “Household Pests” and “Is that Spider Dangerous?” Tuesday, September 29 from 1 to 4:30 pm at the Charlotte County Environmental Campus, 25550 Harbor View Road, Port Charlotte (west off of I-75 exit 167).
Speaker, Dr. Fred Santana, Integrated Pest Management Specialist, will talk about insects and other pests (excluding turf pests) Floridians encounter in and around their homes. In part II of our afternoon program, view some of the more commonly seen spiders in Charlotte County. Although many people are afraid of spiders, the venom of most species does not pose a threat to people. Most spiders play an important role in keeping insects in check and serve as beneficial arthropods in our yards and gardens.
There is a $5.00 charge for this class. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) have been applied for. Pre-registration is recommended. To register contact the Charlotte County Environmental and Extension Service at 941-764-4340 or visit our website at http://charlotte.ifas.ufl.edu/
