Registration for Fall Children’s and Youth Programs opens 9/21/09

The Youth Services Department provides materials and services for youth of all ages from infant to young adult to enrich, enlighten, and entertain.

The Charlotte County Library System realizes the importance of meeting the needs of the children and youth within the community and provides services to youth at all four of its locations.

There's no better place to learn to love books and reading than your local library. The library is a special place where you and your family can read, listen to stories and learn about computers. The library also provides magazines, games, puzzles, audio books, movies and music.

The Library System offers the following programs for youth:

TRAM (Teen Reading And Meeting) is a reading club open to all middle and high school students.  The club is designed to give teens an opportunity to meet with their peers in a supportive environment and discuss books that focus on young adult life issues.  A different book is featured each month and special guests are invited for some programs.  Refreshments and books are provided.

Get Your Game On @ the Library is a video gaming night for teens.  Refreshments are provided. Get Your Game On is open to ages 10-19. All participants are encouraged to register by visiting or calling the library.

Baby Lap Time is a program for parents and their babies 0 to 12 months old.  Together we share music, movements, games and fun designed to foster parent/child bonding and support early brain development.  Weekly class limit is 15 infants. Parents or caregivers must attend and participate with their babies.

Toddler Tales is a story time program for children ages 18 – 36 months.  It is designed to encourage a habit of regular library visits and includes picture book sharing, movement activities, creative dramatics, songs and simple crafts.  Weekly class limit is 40.  Parents or caregivers are expected to attend and participate with their children.

Toddler Time is a 4 week literacy-based program for children from 18 to 36 months of age accompanied by a parent or caregiver. The program supports the development of early literacy skills, self-awareness and self-esteem through the use of age appropriate developmental activities. Advance registration is required due to limited space. Registration indicates a commitment to attend all programs in the session.  Parent or caregiver participation in program activities is required. Class limit is 10 children.

Preschool Pals is a weekly story time program for children ages 3 to 5 years. It is designed to improve listening and group interaction skills through stories, movement activities, music, dramatic play and crafts.  Parents or caregivers are expected to attend and participate with their children. Weekly class limit is 45.

Preschool Academy is a literacy-based program for 3 to 5 year olds meeting weekly from October through April.  The program curriculum focuses on developing school readiness skills and fostering a love of literature. Children attend the program independently, however, a parent or caregiver must remain in the library building during the program. Children must be 3 years old by September 1st to register. Advanced registration is required and registration is a commitment to attend regularly. Class limit is 15.

Super Saturday Movie features a family friendly "new release" monthly. Movie categories include: Action & Adventure, Animation, Comedy, Super Heroes and Fantasy.

Registration for our fall children’s and youth programs opens 9/21/09 at 10 am and runs through 10/3/09 at 5 pm.  The following programs are being offered at various library locations:
