Charlotte County Human Services, a department of Charlotte County Government is designated the lead agency for utilization of the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) funds. The Community Action Agency Advisory Board (CAAAB) oversees the utilization of these funds and advocates for programs that serve low-to-moderate income families. The Board developed A Community Action Plan Task Force in May, 2010. The group met numerous times over the next several months to establish the needs and priorities of the community. The result of their efforts is a comprehensive, strategic Community Action Plan (CAP) to be implemented over five years; 2011-201. The plan is found in its entirety here. Established priorities are to improve coordination of services, increase access to affordable health and behavioral health healthcare and capitalize on opportunities for residents to achieve self-sufficiency. The latter is thought to have the greatest impact with much of the plan devoted to support of this goal.
