The Grove City Community Planning Effort
* For the purposes of the Grove City Community Planning Effort; the boundaries of Grove City are defined as Oyster Creek to the north, Winchester Blvd. to the east, Buck Creek to the south, and Lemon Bay to the west.
A group of citizens met to explore their concerns with regard to growth, development and beautification of Grove City. In January 2004 this group took its concerns to the Grove City Civic Association Board. The Civic Association created a special committee ("planning committee") to focus on these concerns in greater detail and work with the appropriate County staff to brainstorm resolutions to; or more information about; the topics of concern.
In February, 2004 a delegation of 11 citizens met with the Charlotte County Growth Management Department . Staff provide direction on the appropriate "course of action" to move forward in getting the "voice" of the Grove City Planning Committee heard.
The Planning Committee met for 6 months to facilitate discussion and community involvement in the creation of priorities and background information to bring back to Charlotte County. The intent was to gain the support of management and staff to provide resources to be used in the creation of a Grove City Community Plan.
During 2005: staff met with the Grove City planning committee to explain the County’s process, criteria, and time-line for the development of a Community Plan. The committee provided staff with the above referenced, “A Grove City Planning Committee Report” dated August 2004. The Commissioner for the district and management were consulted regarding the "appropriateness" of supporting the Grove City "planning committee" in their request for County resources to undertake a Community Planning Effort.
