Burnt Store Area Plan

Burnt Store Area Planning Effort (updated 11/06)

In June of 2004 the first meeting to discuss the planning of the Burnt Store Corridor was held.  The Burnt Store Improvement Initiative, a group of 7 major property owners, approached the County with their proposed plan of action regarding the Burnt Store Corridor. The Bonita Bay Group was taking the lead position in hiring private consultants to do a Corridor Study. The County decided to enter into a partnership with this group. As a term of the partnership the County requested that the group focus on the entire Burnt Store area and look at all issues including, land use, utilities, transportation, natural resources, etc. The Bonita Bay group complied. They requested and received input from all of the organized homeowner and property owner groups within the plan’s area. They also met with County staff and Commissioners to solicit information and provide updates throughout the process.  The plan went through the County’s “large scale transmittal process”, review by the Department of Community Affairs in Tallahassee, and a final set of adoption hearings at the County.  The final plan, found herein, was adopted by the Board of Charlotte County Commissioners of November 15th, 2006.

Critical components of the Burnt Store Area Plan, the process it underwent, and related decisions “post” adoption are included for your information on this website.  Copies of the “Burnt Store Area Plan” are also available at all Charlotte County Libraries.

UPDATE-November 2006…Charlotte County staff is currently working on "draft" Land Development Regulations (LDR's) to enable to proper implementation of development standards as intended by the policies found within the plan. (policies may be accessed below)
