Department History

The Charlotte County Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department was formed through the consolidation of six independent fire departments beginning in January 1981 as the Charlotte County Fire Rescue Division. In October of 1992 the department officially became the Charlotte County Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department when Charlotte County Fire Rescue and Charlotte County Emergency Medical Services consolidated into one department.

The Charlotte County Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department is a full service career department divided into 3 Battalions that operate out of 16 stations. The department provides full fire and rescue services including hazmat, high angle, trench and confined space rescue. In addition the department has been innovative in its public education.

The department is under the command of Chief Dennis DiDio and handles over 22,000 incidents a year.
