Safety Tips
Smoke Detectors
Install at every level of your home.
Place detectors near bedrooms.
Install detectors 6-12 inches below ceiling on the wall.
Test smoke detectors monthly.
Change batteries twice a year, or whenever a detector chirps indicating
low battery power.
Early Symptoms Of Heart Attack
Chest discomfort
Chest pressure
Chest ache
Chest burning
Chest fullness
Weakness
Sweating
Nausea
Dizziness
At the first sign of chest discomfort, seek medical attention.
If You Wake Up And Find Smoke In Your Room
Roll out of bed.
Stay low and crawl to the door.
Test the door with the back of your hand.
If the door is hot, find another exit.
If the door is cool, open it slowly and go to a predetermined meeting
place outside the home.
Use your neighbors phone and call for help.
Do not go back into your home, you may be seriously injured.
Use Caution When Taking Medications
Mixing prescription drugs with over the counter medications
can sometimes be dangerous.
Consult with your physician first to prevent dangerous combinations.
How Hot Is The Water In Your Home?
Did you know water heaters can cause third degree burns?
Most water heaters are set to 140 degree's.
Protect yourself by lowering the temperature of your water heater to 120
degrees.
Contact your plumber or electrician to lower your water heater temperature.
Learn To Recognize Heat Exhaustion
Signs And Symptoms Include:
Nausea, dizziness, weakness, headache
Skin is pale and moist, possibly heavy perspiration
Temperature is low or normal
Weak pulse
Dilated pupils
Disorientation or fainting spells
First aid includes:
Place victim in a cool location, have them lie down.
Loosen clothes
Cool victim with water or cold compresses
Fan victim
Seek medical attention
If Your Clothes Catch Fire
Stop - do not run, running only fans the flames.
Drop - to the ground, cover your face with your hands.
Roll - back and forth to smother the flames.
