The Expo is open and free to the public from 10 a.m. to 3 pm.

The past two years this event has been successful in bringing the latest in advances for sustainability to residents not only from Port Charlotte, but also Lee, Sarasota, and Collier County. Given the central location of the Expo, the event is now being marketed more regionally. We are happy to announce that the cities of Bradenton, Cape Coral, Venice, Sarasota, Ft. Myers, Punta Gorda, and Bonita Springs have officially signed up to support the SWFL Green Futures Expo this year with the City of North Port being a major sponsor and marketer of the event.

We are grateful to our major sponsorships for this year, Mosaic, Edison State College, Waste Management, Herald Tribune, City of North Port and Green Coast Homes, for without their support, events such as this do not happen.

A variety of vendors from alternative medicine, natural foods, recycling, transportation, home construction and remodeling, etc., will be attending this year’s Expo and will be running raffles, product demonstrations, and discounts on their products.

As if that wasn’t enough excitement for the Expo, take a look at some of the attractions that are planned for this year’s Event!

• Win a three day, two night vacation package!!!! Each Expo visitor (21 years or older) will receive a free raffle ticket for the grand prize vacation!
• One of the treasures of SW FL is our waterways! We have contracted with Charlotte Harbor Environmental Center to bring an Estuary Tour to the Expo this year. This two hour guided tour will explore the wildlife and estuary of the Peace River and how the amazing aquatic life depends on the healthy relationships between land and water. As there is limited seating on the tour, we will be giving pairs of tickets away for the tour on Fox’s Morning Blend TV program on September 27th and on KIX Country’s Morning Show the week of September 26th!
• Go on a Mangrove Walk with the Charlotte Harbor Environmental Center. Tours will be scheduled during the day and are on a first come, first serve basis.
• On the day of the Event, Kix Country Morning Show Co-Host, Bob Alexander, will do his radio show live from the Expo from 10 am to 12 noon!
• Another interesting tour for that day will be visiting outstanding Green Homes and a Commercial remodel. The Green Homes have been built with remarkable green features and include model homes from Sage Homes, Arthur Rutenberg Homes, an ongoing project from Cantin Builders; and a commercial remodel from Green Coast Homes. This fun tour will be on the Green Hibiscus Trolley. Space will be limited and on a first come, first served basis. If interested, please call 941.743.1245 to put in your reservation for the tour.
• Our Presenting sponsor, Mosaic, will be bringing their interactive, Mosaic Express Bus for Expo attendees to explore!
• Our Lunch Sponsor, Waste Management is bringing a kid favorite, Cycler, the Recycling Robot!
• From the Charlotte County Environmental Department, a booth for Florida Friendly Landscaping will be providing a display of actual alternative groundcovers, perennial peanuts, mimosa, etc. as well as micro irrigation technology.
  Another exciting exhibit will involve a youth science program, “Introducing Natures Recyclers with 4-H Forensic Entomology.” The exhibit will display such things as dermestid beetles to skeletonize a frog specimen and other insect related illustrations of how insects and science are involved in forensic activities. Our 4H club will again invite citizens to participate in their hands on projects!
• The City of North Port will encourage the children that visit the Expo to sign the Green Pledge, for which they will receive a surprise treat!!
• Our Educational Community is getting involved too! Educators from our local institutions will be on hand to answer questions and provide information on course and training programs that they have in the sustainable fields.
• Vendors from the local farmer’s market will be located around the outside of the Event Center to exhibit their products!
• Visitors to the Expo will get the 2012 Keep Charlotte Beautiful Calendar which is designed with the winning pictures done by the youth of Charlotte County!
• To make their trip more “carbon friendly”, citizens can also bring their gently used donations to the Goodwill Donation Center which will be set up outside the Event Center for their convenience!
