Ask the Building Department Series - Open House Public Forum - February 25, 2010

Attention: The Building Construction Services Department will be re-opening the Permitting office in the West County Annex at 6868 San Casa Drive, Englewood, FL on Monday, February 8th. The office will be open on Mondays, from 10 am to 4 pm. Staff will be available to answer questions, take payments, accept applications for licenses and permits, intake code enforcement and licensing complaints, and issue “over the counter” permits.

Staff will also be there to assist with the Building Construction Services' new Accela Citizen Access online system. Contractors will be able to be set up to use and operate the system.
In addition, we are planning to facilitate web conferences between contractors and Plans Examiners or managerial staff by appointment only. The aim of this is to allow customers to speak with the Plans Examiner, look at plans, and see code sections together so customers would not have to travel to Murdock.

Services provided at the office located at 18400 Murdock Circle, Port Charlotte, FL include:

  • Plan Review
  • Building Permit Issuance
  • Building Construction Inspection
  • Fire Prevention Inspections
  • Code Compliance Complaints
  • Code Enforcement of both State and County licensure or licensing requirements relative to all building trades.

Phase  I - Accela Citizen Access - Online Services

The Building Construction Services Department has recently implemented Phase 1 of our new Citizen Access web service. We appreciate your patience while we convert to this new service. If you experience any problems with this service, please feel free to call this office at 941.743.1201 or email bcs@charlottefl.com.

With this new service, you can:

  • Apply for permits
  • Track permits through the permitting process  
  • Pay Fees
  • Schedule Inspections
    Inspections can also be scheduled using the telephone inspection line (IVR) by calling 941.833.4086 or 941.743.1966. (PLEASE NOTE: Final Inspections for projects that require a Certificate of Occupancy cannot be scheduled online or through IVR if fees are owed. Please call 941.743.1204 or 941.743.1205 to schedule those inspections.)
  • Conduct Permit Searches (Users who are doing research on permits that were completed or expired before 11/9/2009, there is an archive search that you can be used at this link. Archived Permit Search)
  • Search for Licensed Contractors
  • File a Code Complaint
  • Track a Code Enforcement Case

First time users of ACCELA CITIZEN ACCESS will need to register for an account to pull permits and schedule inspections.
